Hi
My name is Barry.
When I was a kid I had something called Guillian-Barre Syndrome. Don’t worry if you’re not sure how to read or say that. All you need to know is that it is an illness where people can’t move very well. I am grateful for this experience because it has empowered me to help others who understand what it's like to have a disability.
I care about many things because of this experience. I care about family, having friends, the freedom to go places, exercising, eating well, creating art and other past times. It's important that I bring my skills in these areas to other people.
Since becoming an adult, I have supported people in my role as Special Services At Home Worker (It's a strange title because we always went into the community and didn't remain in one another's home); E.A. (Educational Assistant); Support Worker and Direct Support Professional. It has been my pleasure to work with and connect with people I support as well as their caregivers.
All of my work in the past has been important but it was still not enough to satisfy me.
I'm here to support people looking for happiness and fulfillment rather than support a program that someone with a disability is in.
Here I am doing one of my favourite things: Art Instruction!
